At SIHH last January, IWC ingenieur vintage replica watch introduced their new Ingenieur collection, featuring over a dozen new timepieces from the revamped line. While most press attention from the group focused on the in-house calibers, casing materials and array of complications in the new 46mm models, I was won over by the smallest and easiest of the bunch — the new 40mm steel automatic”base model”, mention 3239.
Contrary to the previous iterations it replaces, the 2013 Ingenieur Automatic is the most honest return to the styling of their first Gérald Genta masterpiece, the 1976 Ingenieur SL. Of this trifecta, the Ingenieur has been the very coolly received, and sales were slow for IWC, together with rumors of under a million pieces sold at the first eight years of production.
The integrated steel bracelet is similarly an homage to the first, featuring brushed H-shaped links with rectangular centers. The deployment clasp is engraved IWC ingenieur dual time replica watch, also features release pushers on the sides, an improvement over other mechanisms on integrated bracelet designs (I am calling you out, Royal Oak).
Unlike many sports watches on the market nowadays, IWC ingenieur blue dial fake watch designers restrained themselves on the case back, which is solid steel rather than the seemingly ubiquitous display back. Anybody who has read my past reviews knows that I am not fond of screen backs on anything but the most exceptional of fabrication movements, so I was happy not to have any reason to complain here!
This is the only model in the whole Ingenieur scope to be anti-magnetic. This is surprising as the first Ingenieur was designed from the beginning to become an engineer’s view, good for environments with strong magnetic fields.
Which brings me into the motion. Unlike the bigger 46mm models from the new collection, the 3239 utilizes the IWC calibre 30110, and it can be a modified ETA 2892, stated by IWC Ingenieur replica watch for a base Sellita. This is a proven, powerful tool watch movement using a 42 hour book that is easily serviceable and very trustworthy. Although pedestrian compared to their new in-house calibres, I am personally not set off by the selection. The 2892 serves its purpose well and keeps the cost reasonable. And with IWC’s incredible (and deserved) popularity, I doubt it’ll dissuade most buyers. Furthermore, I am certain that IWC will create in-house moves to fit smaller pieces in the coming years, as IWC (and parent company Richemont) go away from third party suppliers completely.
Thanks to our buddies at IWC ingenieur history imitation watch, I was lucky to receive my hands on a few of the very first bits available to review in the USA. As I attended events with it within the past couple of weeks, it received plenty of attention from fellow watch journos and fans alike. The design has been universally commended — and many agreed that it was the highlight of this new Ingenieur collection. Although the price/movement discussion came up often, most agreed that the value proposal weighed heavily in its favor. I know I don’t talk for myself when I say we would love to find a version with an in-house motion in the near future, but are scared of what the cost might seem like on a single. Right now this is actually the only”re-edition” 70’s Genta masterpiece available new for under (and in this instance, well below ) $15K, which makes it a true bargain.
Despite its value, the biggest appeal of the brand new 3239 Ingenieur for me is entirely in its own design. As a lover of Genta’s classic design speech, I’m impressed with all the sincerity of this homage. Modern flourishes in the dial and hands don’t detract from the vintage styling, and the piece wears very comfortably on the wrist. Much like everything IWC ingenieur amg imitation watch is putting out, the finish and fit are spectacular. Ultimately this is a winner of a timepiece, and a suitable successor to the classic Ingenieur SL.
